Diploma III in Tour and Travel Operations Study Programme

The Travel and Tourism Study Programme, Diploma 3, is one of the study programmes under the Travel Department of the Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, which has been accredited by BAN-PT. Students possess competencies in professional ethics, domestic and international ticket reservations, designing inbound and outbound tourism packages, marketing and selling tourism products, guiding international tourists, and handling tourist arrivals and departures via airports or terminals.
Students in the Tourism Travel Programme undertake field placements each semester at premier destinations in South Sulawesi, as well as in Manado, Bali, and Jakarta. At the end of their studies, students receive international ticket reservation certificates from ABACUS and Galileo, as well as competency certificates from the Professional Certification Body (LSP Politeknik Pariwisata Makassar), under the guidance of qualified lecturers holding Master’s and Doctoral degrees.
Learning facilities include using a practice bus to visit premier tourist attractions, utilising the “ABACUS and Galileo Ticket Reservation System”. The Tourism Studies programme has also collaborated with the Association of Indonesian Travel Agencies (ASITA) and the Indonesian Tour Guide Association (HPI).

Upon completion of this educational programme, graduates will have the competence to manage travel agencies and tour operations.

6 semesters (3-4 years) | Study load: 110-120 credits | Title awarded: Associate Degree in Tourism (A.Md.Par).

Upon completion of this educational programme, graduates will have the following competencies

  • Developing noble character and a spirit of nationalism.
  • Applying professional values and ethics.
  • Managing the business units of the Travel Agency (BPW) professionally.
  • Leading group tours, both domestically and abroad.
  • Providing domestic and international ticketing services manually and through a Computerised Reservation System (CRS), in both Indonesian and English.
  • Performing administrative tasks for the BPW office (operations, ticketing, accounting, marketing).
  • Designing and implementing BPW product marketing strategies.
  • Planning, recruiting, selecting, managing and developing BPW resources.
  • Planning, managing and evaluating BPW finances.
  • Planning, packaging, developing BPW products in accordance with applicable ethics, regulations and legislation.
  • Handling passenger and cargo services at the airport (ground handling).
  • Entrepreneurship in BPW business units with an environmental perspective.
  • Implementing internal and external cooperation (teamwork) within BPW to produce quality service.
  • Researching and compiling tourism research reports.
  • Updating and developing tourism information and communicating it both verbally and in writing.
  • Utilising information technology in the development of BPW's business.
  • Guiding tourists professionally at a tourist destination.
  • Communicating in English and
  • Communicating in other foreign languages.

Upon completion of this educational programme, graduates are expected to be able to hold positions/play roles as:

  • Travel Supervisor/Tourism Travel Agency Supervisor (BPW).
  • Travel Advisor.

Airlane Simulator Center

Document services ranging from issuance, renewal to transfer of SKP issued by the company to workers appointed as Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinators in the workplace.

Reservation System Simulation Room

A room equipped with computers running the Sabre and Galileo systems for CRS (Computer Reservation System) training.

Tourist Bus Simulator

A 32-seat tourist bus was used by students to practise handling guests on board.

Travel Simulator

Used for the practice of serving guests who wish to purchase tickets or tour packages either in person or by telephone.
