Technical Guidance on Tourism: Poverty Avelliation and Optimising the Role of Women in Tourism

Makassar, 1st July 2025 – The Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, through its Centre for Research and Community Service (P3M), held a community empowerment event with the theme ‘Technical Guidance on Tourism: Poverty Alleviation and Optimising the Role of Women in Tourism’ on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, at Delta Lakkang, Lakkang Village, Tallo District, Makassar City.
This activity was attended by 30 participants from the local community, consisting of MSME actors, women leaders, and tourism management residents. Academics and local government officials were also present as a form of collaboration between universities and the community. The main objective of this activity was to equip the community with practical knowledge and skills in developing community-based local tourism potential, as well as to increase the active participation of women as creative economic actors in the tourism sector.
The event began with a committee report by the Head of P3M, Prof. Ilham, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D., who emphasised the importance of strengthening the capacity of coastal communities to face economic challenges through an approach based on local tourism potential.
The next speech was delivered by the Head of Lakkang Village, who expressed his appreciation for the synergy between Poltekpar Makassar and local residents. He emphasised that women play a key role in driving the local economy, particularly through environmentally friendly tourism activities and creative enterprises.
The event was officially opened by the Director of Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, Dr. Herry Rachmat Widjaja, MM.Par., CHE., who stated that vocational campuses such as Poltekpar must become agents of real social change through research and community service programmes based on local needs.
